Environment / An Timpeallacht

The learning environment of Bunscoil Mhic Reachtain is one in which the children’s first right is to feel happy, safe and comfortable. They must see the school as a haven in which all experiences are at all times positive. Our pupils are taught in an environment in which respect for self and others is paramount. All adults in the school see themselves as carers and as teachers and as such, especially with infants, assume many of the roles of the parent during school hours.
Staff / An Fhoireann
All teachers in the school hold recognised teaching qualifications. They are all experienced Irish-medium teachers, two of whom have been educated at both primary and post-primary level in immersion education in Belfast and Dublin. The principal holds both a Masters Degree (Irish) and the highly regarded educational management Professional Qualification in Headship (PQH). Our Early Years teacher has just completed her PQH. All teachers are studying at Masters level in St Mary's University College Belfast.
Curriculum / An Curaclam
Our school provides the same broad and relevant curriculum required of all schools in the North of Ireland. As well as this, we place huge emphasis on Irish Traditional music and singing as well as on our native sports such as hurling/camogie and gaelic football. Children leaving the school are expected to play approximately 35 tunes on the tin whistle or flute. We have embraced the Revised Curriculum and have at least two C2k computers in all rooms.
